In addition to their expertise in traditional disciplines (English/American Studies, History, Sociology/Cultural Anthropology, Romance Studies/Hispanic Studies and Religious Studies), the lecturers on the Master's degree program in Atlantic Studies/History, Culture and Society and members of the Centre for Atlantic and Global Studies have extensive specialist and contextual knowledge with regard to the regional focus on Africa and Latin America/Caribbean.

This field of research covers topics such as violence and conflict resolution, e.g. Central American peace processes, interculturality and legal pluralism, political participation, social and solidarity movements, global human rights, religions and ethnicity as a political resource.
DEALING WITH COLONIALISM AND DEALING WITH COLONIAL HERITAGE



This field of research encompasses cultures of memory and the colonial past, (post)colonial crisis phenomena and conflict dynamics, racism.
MEDIALITY AND INTERCULTURALITY



This field of research encompasses knowledge production and organization, identity formation and its cultural representation, (new) social media, political participation, memory culture and the colonial past.
