3 weeks ago I landed in Ghana's capital Accra and started my internship with Mister Frank Sam. During my ten-day trip to Ghana in October 2017, I was lucky enough to get to know the choreographer, dancer and teacher and thus create a basis for my current, privately organised internship.
So, since the beginning of the month, I have been jetting from school to school with the famous Ghanaian Tro-Tros (I am working in six schools in total) and assisting my mentor with his 'Physical Education', 'Theatre Education' and 'Cultural Education' lessons. A special highlight for me are the rehearsals of his dance theatre project 'Tete Adeyhemma' in the Cantonments, a suburb of Accra, which take place three times a week. Here, children and young people from underprivileged families in the community who have to sell products on the streets during the day instead of going to school come together to dance their hearts out for two hours, driven by Ghanaian drums.
In the course of my four-month internship, I will develop a research question that combines my main areas of study (cultural education in the Atlantic region, frahling processes in contemporary performing arts, theatre didactics in international comparison) and thus serves as the basis for my Master's thesis.
